'Only Connect' (OC) is, first of all, a network of local residents who exchange skills using a 'local currency'. Such a system is called a 'LETS' - 'local exchange trading system'. They exist all over the UK and are worldwide. We have members of all ages and from over 10 nationalities. Since forming in 1998 we have grown into a very sociable group and have added the other activities listed above. We now also use the broader name 'CitiVillage'.
Our 'local currency' takes the form of trading vouchers issued to every member. Each voucher has a value corresponding to the time needed for any particular task. In this way members can exchange services of all kinds - from DIY to gardening to lifts to the station...We include some 40 categories of 'trading'...
