| What is the Members' Area? |

Welcome to the Members' Pages! These pages are under development at present. Almost everything that will eventually be here is already available by other means - the directories, the quarterly postal mailing with newsletters, and the many 'global' emails regularly sent out to the whole membership. But the Members' Area can potentially make Cambridge CitiVillage more dynamic and allow members to connect to each other more easily and directly. This is a temporary situation while we await the appointment of a 'Members' Area Director/Editor'. If you explore this part of the site as it is now (as provisionally designed) you will discover many possible ways in which we can develop our website. For example, one of the bulletin boards could be used to create an inventory of all the items (household goods, etc.) that you would give away to another member or sell for 'lets'. The bulletin boards could also be used as a discussion area where we exchange ideas. The calendar could be a place where you can propose an impromptu meeting. Remember that in Latin the word 'forum' meant both market and meeting place... We need an active 'internet-Savvy' member to look after all this - if it gets big it might need a team...Send in your views! Apply for the job! (There could be a 'lets' salary). About the Members' AreaThe Members' Area contains resources to help members communicate with each other. Some features are only available to registered members - in other words, you must log in using the panel to the left in order to see the full Members Area. Current features include:
Creating an AccountIn order to use the Members' Area fully, you will need to create an account. Don't worry, this is free and easy.
1) Click "Create an account", which is at the bottom of the Login panel on the left of the screen. 2) Enter the passphrase. If you haven't been sent this already, please email the Site Administrator and ask for the passphrase. Note however that it will only be given out to current members. 3) Enter your user information. The Username is how you will be identified to other users when you log in. It doesn't have to be your real name. 4) Click 'Register'. 5) An email will be sent to the email address you entered. This will contain a web link. Click on the link to activate your account. 6) Visit the website and log in. You should now see the entire Members' Area. If you have any problems, please contact the Site Administrator. |
